Polkomtel optimizes network operation

In the age of a fierce competition between telecom operators, optimal use of network infrastructure, technologies available and modern equipment is a challenge. Maintaining optimal network configuration and efficient changes planning and implementation are key business processes translating into quality services with no need for excessive outlays.
 

Objectives and challenges

Polkomtel [shareholders: Vodafone, TeleDanmark, PKN Orlen, KGHM] is a GSM PLUS mobile network operator providing modern services to over 12 million subscribers. Polkomtel’s telecom network covers almost the whole territory of Poland. The firm’s dynamic expansion, continuous development of services and growing number of users brings about a considerable GSM traffic increase. To optimally use the existing infrastructure, an information system became necessary allowing methodological planning of GSM network configuration.

Having considered solutions available worldwide, Polkomtel chose a system by Suntech for pilot installation. Following thorough tests the operator decided to further work with Suntech as a company offering a set of applications which are most flexible, best suit current and future needs, and are available at a reasonable price (...).
